How the coffee was
selected for the auction

  • To begin, farmers in Yemen were notified of the auction through Whatsapp groups, a promotional launch event, Yemeni media, social media and Yemen’s first annual coffee festival, where tens of thousands attended over several days.
  • In total they received 161 submissions representing 1,200+ farmers with a CRM developed to have full transparency and traceability of each lot submitted.
  • Farmers submitted coffees to the NYCA headquarters in Sana’a and they then underwent examinations by qualified coffee professionals.
  • The coffees went through a blind cupping by Yemen’s first national cupping team and the top 50 lots were sent to Boot Coffee Campus in Marin, California, to be evaluated by several Q graders, who made the final determination as to which coffees would go to auction.
  • Those final lots will be evaluated by a panel of judges across the world who will award them their final scores.
